Per capita income is the numerical quotient of income divided by population, in monetary terms.
We work hard for our families.....We work hard for this nation.....
It is a measure of all sources of income in an economic aggregate, such as a country or city. It does not measure income distribution or wealth ( source: Wikipedia)
In 1996, the world bank ranked Kenya among the 17th poorest nations in the world with a per capita income of US$ 250, with US$ 380 being the lowest income in the grading system
Most of our Kenyan folk especially those in slums and the rural areas earn less than US$ 1 a day. Unemployment has rendered our nation's youth income-less.
Recently, fuel prices have sky rocketed. When you look at it carefully, fuel controls our lives in this country. The food we eat, the cars we drive in, the matatus and buses we take, the products we consume-they all use fuel at one point or another.
The government takes over Kshs.30 per litre in the form of excise duty alone. Inefficiencies, taxes, storage and transportation costs have rendered this product expensive. The Kenya Petroleum Refinery Limited makes over Kshs. 3.5 billion a year from pumping fuel from Changamwe.
Look at the giants who provide fuel in the country, they recently recorded profits running into billions of shillings.
In a measure to calm the unrest within the demographics, the government came up with a ridiculous reduction of diesel and kerosene by Kshs.2 per litre, which is embarrassing to say the least and mind you has not taken effect in most areas of the country to date.
Kizza Besigye walked to work to protest the increasing food and fuel prices in Uganda. You all know what happened to him.
I urge the government to put in place mechanisms and professionals with integrity who are going to check the fuel industry in this country. We also need alternative sources of efficient energy.
We work hard for our families.....We work hard for this nation.....
When will this nation work hard for us????
Keep up the hope my hustling brothers and sisters.....
Well said. True to the fact. I wont agree less. The standards of living are very high at the moment, by virtue of the fact that fuel prices have rocketed. Fuel, as I have realized drives the economy. Something has to be done.
ReplyDeleteNice work Bro. This is a great initiative.
