KENYAN POWER BLACKOUTS VS. PROFITS VS. BOREDOME

Am really sick and tired of what the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has been doing year in year out when it comes to power rationing.

Take an example of a  populous area of Nairobi, say, Eastlands where Kenyans of low to middle income businesses have set up shop. Do you know the pinch they feel when power goes out for even an hour.

If I am a customer to a barber shop and salon in this area and I take my family of three sons and one daughter every other saturday for grooming, am likely not to do so in case of a power black out. I will look for an alternative shop to get this service. This translates into less revenue for the business eventually bringing down her profits. Use the same evaluation for any other business that uses electricity to provide its services and the results are the same.

To make matters worse, most of the time, these guyz make rainy days, saturdays and sundays boring. These days are crucial in  a kenyan's life. It is a time to stay in, rest, spend time with family and socialize. Since most kenyans use electricity as a source of energy, it becomes very boring at home. The movies you were supposed to watch, the music you were supposed to listen to, the treadmill you were supposed to run on, all, rendered useless for a period of more than 24 hours.

A friend of mine who went out clubbing one day experienced the worst night of her life. Imagine candles being lit up at a discotheque as you awaits the return of this vital energy!

I have one more question for K.P.L.C, why do you keep blacking us out at night?
We plead with you to be reasonable and considerate.

Have a powerful weekend people!

Jah bless you all!
