THE TRUTH ABOUT BUSINESS AND LIFE IN KENYA

CORRUPTION 101:

Road corruption:
Have you ever had a traffic incident on the road and knew that the fault was yours?
Have you ever witnessed a corrupt police officer taking a bribe from the driver or conductor of a matatu?
Bribing is corruption. When you pay someone in order for you to take a detour from the law, that is illegal.

School Corruption:
When you pay to have your kid get into a good school through the back door, that is illegal.
Most rich parents have found a way of getting their average kids into the best schools. The poor qualified ones miss out on these opportunities as their positions end up being taken.
When your professor/lecturer asks for sexual favors in exchange for your good grade despite your poor performance in the exams, that is just wrong.

Business Corruption:
Tenders from different companies and government institutions get advertised in the media every other day. For some and if not all of them, I think this is a formality. There is always a monetary exchange that goes on under the table. It is also referred to as Business to Business corruption.

Political Corruption:
When those in political offices embezzle public funds, they are breaking the law. Tax payers’ money being wasted on ghost projects, expensive automobiles, unnecessary shuttle diplomacy trips….give me a break!

Employment Corruption:
When you pay to get a job that you are not qualified for. When an employer seeks sexual favors from a would be employee to guarantee a job in the organization, that just sucks, right?

CBD Corruption.
When you pay the City Council askaris to avoid getting arrested within the city.

At one point in our lives, I think we have all been corrupt.  I commend the K.A.C.C on its recent investigative work against some senior government officials. Personally I believe to fight corruption; we have to start from within ourselves, having a change of heart and mind towards corrupt individuals. Say NO to corruption. It may never end I tell you that much but we all have to start somewhere.

I wish u the best in the fight against this monster.

Have a corrupt free day!
